Get ready to flip, it's Pancake Day!

Post Date: 21 Feb 2020

Have your frying pans at the ready and be prepared to flip – Tuesday 25 February is Pancake Day!

Otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday, this traditionally marks the last day before Lent. With an opportunity to consume delectable ingredients before abstaining in the run up to Easter Sunday, Pancake Day is a fabulous excuse to indulge in the truly scrumptious!

Whether you prefer simple lemon and sugar French style crepes or fully stacked and loaded American style pancakes, source your indulgent ingredients from a superb selection of grocery stores here in Clapham Junction. However, if the thought of flour dusted worktops and burnt frying pans fill you with dread, why not get your fill of foodie heaven at one of these popular eateries.

BATTERSEA RISE

The arrival of The Breakfast Club in Battersea has transformed the most important meal of the day into a sensory taste explosion with mouth-watering ‘good grub’. February specials include Ham, Egg and Chips Pancake Stack or Vegan Bangers and Mash Pancake Stack. Too much to deal with early doors? Don’t worry, opt for fluffy pancakes with lighter options from bountiful berries to banana and salted caramel – yum!

LAVENDER HILL

For the perfect neighbourhood brunch spot, sample the delights of Social Pantry with well-sourced, seasonal and delicious food, served alongside great coffee. Heavenly pancake alternatives include toasted banana bread, and cinnamon and banana French toast with coconut yoghurt and mixed berries. Their bottomless brunch is available at weekends so be sure to fill your boots with some sweet and savoury soul food.

Not so far away you’ll find Jacks at the Junction where you can devour their ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’; a phenomenal feast full of fluffy pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon and egg, drizzled in sweet maple syrup. Make sure you’re hungry!

NORTHCOTE ROAD

With a vibrant café culture, Northcote Road is a buzzing weekend brunch destination. Bluebird Brothers is a perfect example of a family-run business, passionate about great quality produce and service. Outstanding coffee and artisan pastries make this café a firm favourite with visitors both near and far.

Along the road is Al Gusto – a bustling Italian deli café offering all things ‘egg’ on their extensive breakfast menu, complimented with fresh juices and superbly strong Italian coffee.

Nearby, Pintus picks up points for creative croissants, huge portions and a lovely atmosphere. Gianduia or avocado, anyone?

ST JOHN’S ROAD

Our friends with the golden arches can always be relied upon for morning pancake delights. At McDonald’s on St John’s Road you can sample a favourite breakfast staple – pancakes with syrup or, for that savoury twist, add a Maccy D’s sausage.

2 Love Coffee House specialises in serving high end coffee and tea and boasts being one of the 10 best coffee shops in London, as nominated by The Guardian. So, if the thought of pancake stacks and burly brunches is giving you the food sweats, a lovely cup of their rosy lee and a slice of sponge could be the cure!

ST JOHN’S HILL

Take a trip down memory lane and you’ll arrive at The Schoolhouse where you’ll enjoy a throwback to the best bits of your school days. Unlike most school dinners you’ll find a tantalising brunch menu to tickle your taste buds, served from 9am to 4pm every day. Indulge in stacked salted caramel pancakes with banana and toasted hazelnuts or, for brunch with a chilli twist, try the Mexican toasted tortilla.

A short stroll away you’ll stumble upon Deli Boutique – the perfect spot for petit déjeuner with simple croissants and brioche, or a French style brunch with their traditional Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame.

If you’re making it a boozy kinda brunch, take a look at the Joe Public menu served at Powderkeg on weekends. Their Jackfruit Stack, Pulled Pork Benny or Bubble Waffles washed down with a glass of prosecco may have you reaching for the Gaviscon but trust us, it will be totally worth it!

Whether you create your own and stay at home, or venture out to devour local batter mix delights, have a flippin’ eggscellent Pancake Day here in The Junction!
