For many of us, the New Year is a time for fresh starts and striving to achieve new goals.
After an indulgent festive period, a focus on health and fitness may be at the top of your resolutions list and it’s a great way to kickstart 2025. Incorporating fitness into our lifestyle not only improves our physical health, but also has an incredible effect on our mental wellbeing, helps us to build confidence and, of course, gives us new social connections.
To set you on your fitness path, we’ve put together a guide to gyms, health clubs and fitness studios in Clapham Junction where you’ll find plenty of ways to fire up those endorphins and get motivated and moving. Lycra at the ready, here we go…
Gyms and Health Clubs
January is a great time to benefit from great deals on gym memberships!
As an example, Fitness First on St John’s Hill is offering the first month half price with no joining fee and the benefits of joining now include 1 x 45-min complimentary trainer session with a qualified Personal Trainer of your choice. And, if you test out the first few classes – from Strength, Cardio and Cycle to Mind & Body and Fight – and find it’s not for you, there’s a seven-day cooling-off period for new members.
One of the newest health clubs to open in Clapham Junction is Third Space, a luxury neighbourhood club offering 27,500 sq ft of high-spec workout and recovery space. Located in the iconic Arding & Hobbs building, the stunning original beams and windows, with modern industrial finishes, pour natural light into the 2,500 sq ft gym space and frame their signature HIIT and cycle classes and Hot Yoga and Reformer Pilates spaces. Third Space offers a ‘Club’ membership package for their Clapham Junction health club, or ‘Group and ‘Group Plus’ for access to other sites too.
Of course, you don’t need to be a dedicated gym bunny to enjoy the health benefits of a gym and, fortunately, many of our local fitness centres offer flexible packages to work around your busy lifestyle. Over at Milo and The Bull on St John’s Hill – also a Hyrox Training Club – you can test the water with a two-week unlimited class trial for just £25. Later this month you’ll also get the opportunity to try out their brand new Reformer Pilates Studio, due to open on the 25th – Reformer Pilates is a unique form of pilates which uses resistance created through a moving carousel with springs and straps and is an incredible form of low-impact exercise with big benefits.
Coming soon! Keep an eye out for Anytime Fitness, set to open later this month in the former Fitness First Lavender Hill location.
Boxing Clubs
Boxing is a superb way to get fit and help us deal with life’s inevitable punches. Across the road from Clapham Junction station, 12 Rounds Boxing offers classes for beginners through to pro-boxing coaching.
The Boxing Fundamentals course is designed for newbies who want to pull on the gloves, sample some drills and improve their overall fitness. And, for young budding boxers in the family, Kids Boxing is a great introduction to a fun and social environment, with classes for 6-10-year-olds and 11-15-year-olds. If you’re not sure it’s for you, try their taster session for £10.
Spin Studios
Located on Battersea Rise, Psycle London hosts their signature spin workout – Ride – set to an upbeat playlist and guided by equally upbeat instructors.
With the bike, the beat and the instructor, you’ll be pushed beyond the limits of your average spin class and immersed in the energy of the room, bringing you an unrivalled mind and body experience.
Yoga and Pilates Studios
If you prefer a little mindfulness ‘me’ time with the occasional 'Om’, Sadhana Yoga and Wellbeing on St John’s Hill allows you to escape the noise of the city.
In a space designed to help you find balance, build strength, and cultivate inner peace you'll be supported in a nurturing environment. So, if you’re ready to practice your downward dog, try their Multi-Studio Offer which includes four classes for £30.
Over on Northcote Road, Every (formerly Willow London) specialises in Reformer Pilates with 45-minute classes designed to leave you feeling energised and uplifted. Their Sculpt, Form, Spicy, Strong, Melt, Prenatal and Postnatal classes mean there is a class for everyone and every body, every day of the week. Purchase their Two-Class Teaser for £40 if you want to dip your toes.
Fuel Your Fitness
Let’s not forget, if you’re starting a new fitness programme, you’ll need the fuel to power an active lifestyle.
From wholesome food to energising juices and essential vitamin supplements, what you put into your body is just as important as the exercise you choose. These are just some of our local businesses, on hand to help:
Wholefoods | The Source Bulk Foods | Joe and The Juice | Oakberry Açaí
Holland & Barrett | Boots | Superdrug | Goys The Chemist | Northcote Pharmacy
